Connect for free with the first available Certified Listener. All of our Certified Listeners are volunteers and have been trained and meet our Core Competencies and abide by our Code of Ethics.
Volunteer Opportunities
Emotional Support – Certified Listeners
- About: The Emotional Chat Volunteer, also known as a Certified Listener you will be providing emotional support on the online chat platform and provide support to chatters who are in distress and emotional. As a Certified Listener, you are not a therapist or telling others what to do and our volunteers do not provide crisis intervention or addiction counselling. There will be proper training provided before taking support chats and this is an opportunity to gain more life skills.
- Be able to commit to 4 hours/week
- Provide immediate and confidential support that adires by the agency procedures and policies
- Complete the weekly designated shifts and reporting to Certified Listener supervisor and coordinator
- Work with callers/chatters, volunteers and staff in a respectful and professional manner
- Letting chatter know someone listens and cares
- Letting the chatter know there is someone here to provide individual support
- Managing to build relationships and have conversations through empathy and emotional on the online platform
- Ongoing training, development and support from the team
Emotional Support – Shift Supervisor
- About: Reporting to the Certified Listener Program Manager, you will be tasked to supervise our Certified Listener Volunteers and provide them with emotional support as needed. Given that we are an emotional support service, calls may vary in nature. This is a great opportunity to learn valuable skills and volunteer from home, especially during the pandemic.
- Providing immediate and confidential support to our certified listener volunteers (chat, etc.) using agency procedures and policies.
- Help our Certified Listener Volunteers by providing them with resources and referrals when appropriate.
- Understanding what to do if you are concerned about a person’s safety (Client or Certified Listener Volunteer)
- Work with callers/chatters, volunteers, and staff in a respectful and professional manner.
- Ability to type 40 WPM.
- Perform risk assessments during calls to determine if the calls are beyond our scope.
- Work with callers/chatters, volunteers, and staff in a respectful and professional manner.
What will you NOT be doing
- Certified Listener Volunteers are not therapists or hold themselves out to be.
- Volunteers are to only provide emotional support and should not try to provide callers with mental health support or services.
- Telling people what to do or how they should live their lives
- Providing crisis intervention or addiction counselling.
