About Bike to Work Calgary
BTWD brings together like-minded Calgarians to promote cycling as a viable means of transportation, reduce inner-city traffic congestion, and reduce pollution in the air. Cycling is a great addition to a healthy lifestyle and can be very cost effective – not to mention how much time is saved by not sitting in traffic. BTWD promotes a sense of community. With the effects of climate change weighing on our shoulders, biking to work is a simple way to reduce carbon emissions and our environmental impact.
Volunteer Opportunities
Before the Event:
Volunteers will receive their Energy Pit Stop Station information about two weeks before the event. Energy Pit Stops are strategically located around the downtown core to be visible to as many cyclists as possible. Each Energy Pit Stop team will have one team leader who will be responsible for collecting a box of supplies the day before the event. The team leader will contact the team members to confirm the location and what needs to be done on the event day. You will also receive information regarding free parking while volunteering.
Event Day:
Volunteers should show up at 5:30 a.m. at their designated Energy Pit Stop Station location. You will be there to enthusiastically (!) encourage riders as they pass by. You will have some give-away items to give to cyclists. We will provide you with bright coloured volunteer vests for safety and visibility. We will also have a bluetooth speaker which you can pair with your phone to play some music (try not to be too loud before 7 a.m). The event goes until 9 a.m. with take down going until 10:00 a.m. The team leader will be responsible to return the supplies box and you will be free to leave your Station.
