Thank you for your interest in joining our Behind the Shield community with The Salvation Army
Community Services (Calgary). The process for becoming a volunteer with Community Services (Calgary) is:

• Attend a Volunteer Information & Orientation Session.
• At the end of the session you can complete an application. This will enable you to volunteer at Special Events when help is needed. Volunteer requests for these events are sent out via e-mail.
• If you wish to volunteer with a particular program or become a Regular Volunteer, you may respond to any volunteer posting. These postings will be emailed to you or can be found on our website.
• To respond to a posting contact the person listed on the posting to arrange a meeting. At the meeting the program staff will discuss the position and how to proceed.
• Once a placement is agreed upon the supervisor will inform the Volunteer Coordinator who will contact you to review necessary paperwork, policies and procedures. All volunteers are required to complete the Learn to Protect Abuse Prevention Training. Depending on the position, screening processes may include:
  • Reference Checks – we do ask for three references
  • Police Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Intervention Record Check (if you will be in contact with minors)
  • The Salvation Army – Abuse Registry Clearance
