Today, City Harvest is New York City’s largest food rescue organization, helping to feed the more than 1.5 million New Yorkers who are struggling to put meals on their tables. We will rescue over 100 million pounds of food this year and deliver it, free of charge, to hundreds o food pantries, soup kitchens, and other community partners across the five boroughs.
Volunteering with City Harvest is a terrific team building experience and you’ll walk away with a clear understanding of how your support made a difference in the lives of New Yorkers.
Much of the food that City Harvest procures through partnerships with farmers, wholesalers, or through local food drives arrives in large capacity containers, which can be challenging to distribute equitably. Help us take thousands of pounds of produce and repack it from large, bulk containers into smaller, family-sized units that community food programs can easily distribute to their clients.
Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays. Both morning (10am to 12:30pm) and afternoon (2pm to 4:30pm) shifts are available.
Location: City Harvest’s Cohen Community Food Rescue Center in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
